Lean into the Remix

Just as I was deeply appreciating the slow, intentional pace of my days, things really picked up with a girls trip to Vegas.

I’m grateful for the ability and support structure that allows me to shift gears. And doing it with friends who have known me since I was 17 is its own kind of restoration. Now, back to the regularly scheduled programming of my sweet life.

In what ways have you picked up the pace or shifted gears this summer?

Resting

An invitation to slow down long enough to hear what your mind, body, and heart are telling you.

There’s so much about summer that can be unpredictable. In the best ways and also in ways that can be unsettling. I recently had to fight the urge to abandon a rest practice just to keep things afloat.

With my son attending multiple camps in and around Douglasville, it became challenging to honor my standing date to “Rest at Sweetwater Creek.” Y’all know how I feel about Sweetwater Creek!

I almost accepted that I would have to forfeit it in this season. And then I realized — nope — I could think about this rest practice differently. The objective: spend time in nature, disconnecting to reconnect.

I looked for an alternative along the camp route and found one. For a few weeks, the calendar invite now reads: “Rest at Trammell Park.” Same objective. Different conditions. Still rest.

Remembering

An invitation to reconnect with your brilliance - the wisdom, creativity, and magic within and around you.

I walk past the bathroom door and hear Michael Jackson blasting and someone singing at the top of their lungs. "Billie Jean is not my lover…"

I’m confused because my husband is the only other one in the house old enough to appreciate the genius of MJ.

Wrong. My 6 year old is a bonafide fan. He wants to listen to Michael Jackson every chance he gets. When he gets up, in the car, before bed. The little incorrect factoids like “Michael Jackson only has four songs” crack me up.

My son's discovery of the King of Pop is giving us full permission to rediscover some classics together, and even challenge ourselves to learn how to moonwalk (see tutorial here).

Recasting/Realizing

An invitation to imagine the life you desire and pursue it with joy as your compass.

You can't move towards what you've stopped seeing.

So much of our lives are spent head down, addressing what’s right in front of us. If we're more intentional, we might be looking six months or even a year ahead. But what if we slowed down long enough to consider what we want to be true…three whole years from now? Sit with these when you have a quiet moment:

  1. What do you see? How do you look, feel, and move through your days?

  2. What have you been able to build — or step into — that previously felt out of reach?

  3. What did you have to release to get here?

  4. What do you now know for certain that you're only beginning to believe today?

My rough draft answers: freedom, learning, experimentation, deep connection. Wealth. Spaciousness. Purpose. Risk taking. Abundance.

I'd love to hear the key words and phrases that surface once you pause and look ahead.

Rediscovery is within reach in the smallest of moments. What are you finding your way back to this summer?

Joyfully,

Elandria
